Lam-Ang

"Lam-ang- journey of a hero" is an adaptation; of a play adaptation written by Mig Alvarez Enriquez . The story is originally an epic poem of the Ilocano people from the Ilocos region of the Philippines. This play is influenced by the Indian Hindu epics Ramayana and Mahabharta. Recited in the original Ilocano language of the pre-colonial period, the poem was passed on for generations through oral tradition. After the Spaniards arrived in the Philippines, Catholicism was so strong that even the traditional stories of the native Filipinos were Christianized. To date, no one actually knows what the original story was and if there were real life references in the story. It was first transcribed around 1640 by a blind Ilocano bard named Pedro Bucaneg.

Lam-ang is an extraordinary being who was born as a grown man. He was barely a year old when he decided to look for his father who disappeared after he went to the land of the Igorot headhunters. In this adaptation, his exploits and adventures represent the ever changing cultural perspective of the East as it is being influenced by the West.
